Hello! My name is Nick Logue. I am the 3-month Intern for the Maryland State Golf Association this summer. I am a current student at the University of South Carolina studying Sport and Entertainment Management, and I will be entering my junior year this fall. I am from Bowleys Quarters, Maryland, and I attended Calvert Hall College High school in Towson, Maryland, where I played Soccer and Golf. I fell in love with the game of golf because golf is such a peaceful game and one that I can play for the rest of my life. Additionally, having a family full of golfers, I was put onto the game when I was young, and being able to play with and against my family members is something that I enjoy. I am looking forward to this opportunity with the Maryland State Golf Association and to learning more about the golf industry.
Why were you interested in an internship with the MSGA?
Starting my senior year of high school, I grew this desire to work in golf because I loved playing it so much. After working in several professional tournaments such as the PGA Championship, Ryder Cup, and the Masters, I knew working in golf was what I wanted to do. Being a part of the MSGA provides me with a huge opportunity to help me along my career path in the golf industry. When I found this internship, I applied with no hesitation and knew the experience and knowledge I would gain from this internship would help set me apart from others trying to work in the golf industry.
What is your favorite golf course in the area?
My favorite golf course in the area is Mountain Branch Golf Club. Last summer, working there provided me the opportunity to play golf there. Being able to experience the different challenges the course offers has made me enjoy playing the course more and more each time. Additionally, shooting my lowest round at Mountain Branch has made it my favorite course.
When did you start playing golf? Who got you into the game?
I started playing the game of golf around the age of 8. My dad was the one who got me into golf, and he would take me out to play with some friends of his occasionally. Additionally, my grandfather would take me to play golf and give me lessons while we played, which improved my game. Also, when I was younger, I never liked watching golf, but I saw my dad watching it one day and saw a player in orange pants, an orange polo, and an orange hat, and that player was Rickie Fowler. This one occasion of watching Rickie Fowler play made me fall in love with watching golf, and it made me want to play it more and more. His style and swagger are what made my 9-year-old self want to be just like him.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When I am not working, you will most likely find me at Mountain Branch playing a round of golf with my friends. I also live on the bay, so I like to go out on the boat and hang out on the water. Lastly, I like going to the beach, so I occasionally take a trip down to Ocean City for a weekend to relax.
