Joppatowne, Md. – The Maryland State Golf Association conducted its second One-Day event, a mixed doubles tournament, at Mountain Branch Golf Club on Tuesday, May 26.
Championship Division
Net Champions
Ashton Drummond and Stephen Poulos of Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club secured the Net competition, clearing nine birdies and an eagle to complete a 10-under-par 62 round, winning by two strokes.
Drummond and Poulos also took the day’s lowest Gross score, but with this tournament structure, teams are only permitted to collect prizes under one division. The pair accepted first place within the Net standings.
Gross Champions
With Drummond and Poulos taking Net honors, Willy Bhatia of Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club and Michelle Proser of LPGA Amateur GA, claimed the Championship Gross title after carding two birdies to bring them to a two-under-par 70 round.
Senior Division
Net Champions
Three teams tied for the Senior Net title. The tiebreaker favored Denise and Kirk Thomas of Prospect Bay Country Club, who earned the top spot in the Net standings after recording seven birdies during their six-under-par 66 round.
Gross Champions
Robert Pinkerton of the MSGA eClub and Shelly Pinkerton of Chesapeake Bay Golf Club found themselves atop the Gross leaderboard. The duo fired five birdies, landing at five-under-par 67, clearing the rest of the field by four strokes.
The event format was 18 holes of Doubles Golf, a two-person scramble in which both players tee off on every hole, then select the best shot and continue play from that position until the ball is holed. The committee for MSGA One-Day tournaments uses the USGA-recommended method for breaking ties when a playoff is not feasible, as outlined in Committee Procedures 5A(6) of the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf.
The MSGA would like to thank the staff and membership of Mountain Branch Golf Club for hosting a fantastic day of golf.
