Hello! My name is Paige Price and I am a 2022 P.J. Boatwright Intern for the Maryland State Golf Association. I graduated from Hampton University in May 2020 with a B.S. in Sports Management. I am originally from Long Beach, California and I attended Fort Bend Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas where I played on the varsity golf and soccer teams. I currently attend Georgetown University in pursuit of my Master’s degree in Sports Industry Management. I enjoy the game of golf because requires extreme focus and it was the first sport that played. The game of golf is special to me because the majority of the time I spent on the course or at the driving range practicing was also quality time spent with my dad. I stepped away from golf for a few years and played soccer in college. The Maryland State Golf Association is an opportunity for me to learn more about golf, be involved in the sport again, and contribute to this organization in any way that I can, while also being a part of the game again.

Why were you interested in an internship with the MSGA?

I believe that working for the Maryland State Golf Association will help and give me the necessary tools to start a career in the sports industry. I believe that being able to have hands on experience at the MSGA events will help give me a better understanding on how to operate golf events, managing social media content, and administrative details that go into running a sports organization.

What is your favorite golf course in the area?

Because I am not from the area and haven’t played a round of golf in a while, I will say my favorite course is El Dorado Park Golf Course in Long Beach, CA. It is where I played my first year of high school, where played in several varsity tournaments while being on JV. I ended up being asked to play in the CIF Playoffs as a freshman. Another course that is sentimental to me is Lakewood Country Club in Lakewood, CA as it was the first and last time I was able to play a round of golf with my late grandfather.

When did you start playing golf? Who got you into the game?

I first picked up a golf club when I was three years old. My dad always took me with him to the driving range when he would go to practice and he taught me as well. I was five when I enrolled in my first golf camp, where I was only mildly interested by the rules portion of it, but was thrilled when we finally got to go to the putting green My dad was my teacher; not my coach, and he helped me with developing my game through my teenage years and still today.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I like to keep myself busy because I am extremely dedicated to achieving my career goals in the sports industry and I hold several other positions in the DMV area. Along with my graduate program, I am a Graduate Marketing Assistant at Georgetown in the Athletics department, and I also work part-time for the 2021 NWSL Champion Washington Spirit.

When I am not working, which is rare, I enjoy spending time with my friends. We like to find hot new restaurants, places, and venues to hang out, eat, and socialize with each other and meet new people. I also spend a good chunk of time watching shows and movies on the various streaming platforms that I have access to.
