Round 2

Defending champion, Kevin Grady (Rolling Road GC), carded a 67 on Tuesday to take home his 4th Mid-Amateur Championship in the last five years. Grady has won in 2018, 2019, 2021, and now 2022.

Grady shot a 34-33-67 to finish six strokes ahead of second place Ryan Crabtree. His front nine consisted of a birdie on the par-5 3rd, as well as another birdie on the par-4 7th. However, he would follow up that birdie with a bogey on the par-4 8th hole, rounding his front nine score to a 1-under-par, 34.

His back nine consisted of 2 birdies and no bogeys. Grady birdied the drivable par-4 11th and the par-5 17th to bring his back nine scores to 2-under-par, 33.

Connor Flach of Turf Valley sat at 2-under-par and one back of Grady going into the second round but was unable to gain any ground. After making eagle on the par-5 3rd, Flach bogeyed the next two holes and bogeyed three more holes after that. Flach finished his round at two-over-par, 72, and finished even for the week.

When Grady hoisted the championship trophy, he became the only four-time champion of the Maryland Mid-Amateur Championship. Grady surprised Terry Burke, who has won the championship three times.
