The 2022 Mixed Two-Ball Championship was held on August 8th at Winters Run Golf Club in Bel Air, Maryland. A total of 19 teams competed in the competition for the Championship trophy, and an additional 17 teams competed in the Senior Division. The format for this event was select drive and alternate shots, thereafter, also known as Greensomes or Modified Chapman/Pinehurst, with both gross and net prizes.
The Father and daughter team of Henry Blue (Caves Valley GC) and Elizabeth Blue (Green Spring Valley Hunt Club) won the championship in a two-hole playoff over Evan Cocke (Piney Branch GC) and Lora Fioretti (Hunt Valley GC). Both teams carded a score of 1 over par 73. The Blues were cruising along at two under par after 11 holes but then went four over par on the following three holes. A birdie on 17 gave them a final score of 73. Cocke and Fioretti had four birdies and five bogies for their 73.
The playoff started on hole #8. Both teams missed the green and subsequently missed their par putts. On hole #9, both ladies hit excellent drives. Evan Cocke hit the second shot for his team to 12 feet. However, Henry Blue chipped the second shot to less than two feet. Elizabeth Blue converted the putt for birdie to win the championship.
This was the first MSGA championship held at Winters Run. Despite the heat and humidity in the Baltimore area, the players enjoyed the course. Winters Run provided a great mixture of difficult and fair holes. In the Championship Division, the men played from 6420 yards, and the women played from 5520 yards. In the Senior Division, the men played from 6095 yards, and the women played from 5080 yards.
