The Two Woman Mid-Handicap was held at Fountain Head Country Club on August 15, 2019. Fountain Head is a Donald Ross designed course and was built in 1924. Ross is known for his innate ability to sculpt a course around the natural environment and this is certainly true for Fountain Head. The course is in impeccable condition, a tribute to the very talented course Superintendent Brian Gietka.
Golf talent and golf course knowledge were key factors when awards were presented after all had completed a challenging 18 hole round. Three of the five teams who won prizes were members of Fountain Head and the women certainly took advantage of knowing where to hit their shots and where not to be above the hole on any given green! The overall Champions, members of Fountain Head CC, Chris Randall and Robin Twigg shot a solid, consistent, impressive 40-40–80 total. The Runner Up team of Pat Craven and Mary Kresslein, also from Fountain Head were 4 shots behind with an 84, another solid score. Although Craven and Kresslein made a charge and were 1 under par for the last 4 holes it was not enough to catch the eventual Champions, Randall and Twigg!
First Low Net winners were Susan Dorris and Nancy Worthington from Maryland Golf & Country Club. They shot a spectacular 62 and verbalized that they had truly “ham and egged” all day, taking turns playing well on different holes. Second Low Net, the third team from Fountain Head CC, was won by Tracy Fuller and Velda Ghattas with a solid 64, two shots behind the Net Winners. Third Low Net was won by Charmaine Lewis (MSGA eClub) and her partner Tanya Rachfal (Queenstown Harbor) with a solid 66, just 2 strokes behind second place.
