The Online Auction Proceeds benefit the following initiatives funded by the MSGA:
Youth on Course — The MSGA partnered with Youth on Course in early 2018, bringing access to golf for $5 or less to youth in the Maryland and D.C. region. Youth on Course guarantees members ages 6-18 pay $5 or less per round at over 1,400 courses across the nation, including 21 courses in Maryland. The MSGA then subsidizes the difference between the $5 rate and the course’s normal rate to ensure golf courses do not lose money. In 2020 alone, the MSGA has provided close to $40,000 in subsidies to support Youth on Course in Maryland.
Junior Grants — The MSGA Junior Grant program provides financial assistance to boys and girls from Maryland who have the playing ability to compete in junior golf competitions at the regional and/or national level but whose participation is limited by financial constraints. The program reimburses players up to $500 for expenses incurred while participating in tournaments. Six grants will be awarded annually.
Scholarships — The Maryland State Golf Association Scholarship Program is available to individuals who have provided services as employees (or children of employees) at MSGA member clubs for a minimum of two years, and/or students who have completed their junior year of high school with a bonafide connection to golf. Since this program began in 2007 the MSGA has awarded over $132,000 in scholarship money to 41 recipients.
Junior Girls Season Openers — The Women’s Division hosts a Season Opener annually to introduce girls ages 7-14 to the game of golf. The fun day is free of charge and include clinics from PGA & LPGA instructors, and education on golf fitness, etiquette and rules. One to three holes of golf are played, depending on age and all girls are treated with pizza, ice cream sundaes, and gifts.
