(PEBBLE BEACH, Ca.) — Youth on Course — the non-profit organization dedicated to opening doors, supporting dreams and transforming the lives of young people through opportunities on and off the golf course – has partnered with National Links Trust to bring affordable golf to kids in the District of Columbia.
Committed to making the game more appealing, inclusive and accessible to nurture the next generation of lifelong players and lovers of the game, the partnership provides junior golfers in D.C. the opportunity to play rounds for $5 or less at East Potomac, Langston and Rock Creek golf courses.
Families interested in taking advantage of this may sign up through the Maryland State Golf Association and will receive access to the three D.C. courses, an additional 19 Maryland courses and more than 1,400 participating courses across 37 states and Canada. Members also benefit from career opportunities through its caddie and internship program and college scholarships.
“Golf has seen a significant resurgence across the country this year and we’re continuing to expand our reach to give young people new opportunities through the game as shown with this new partnership,” says Michael Lowe, vice president of programs for Youth on Course. “The National Links Trust is committed to growing the game in D.C. for years to come and our partnership will help open the doors to juniors who may not have had access to the game of golf otherwise.”
Earlier this month, the National Links Trust signed a 50-year lease with the National Park Service to manage the three public golf courses in the District. Along with a number or planned renovations, the organization’s goal is to bring accessibility and affordability back to golf in D.C.
“As D.C natives, we are thrilled to be bringing this opportunity to junior golfers here,” says Will Smith, co-founder of NLT. “We’re working to strengthen golf in the District, and a key part of that strategy is reaching the future of the sport. Youth on Course’s affordability and the access our courses provide will strengthen the golf community in the region for years to come.”
The partnership also includes work with “Golf. My Future. My Game.,” a nonprofit working to foster greater diversity in the golf industry by creating educational opportunities and developmental pathways for communities of color within the sport. Members will receive a free Youth on Course membership along with additional developmental programming opportunities.
