Tournament Information

Silver Spring, Md. – The Maryland State Golf Association (MSGA) is set to host the 107th playing of the DC Amateur Championship at Argyle Country Club from August 7-9. This is the first year the MSGA will host the event since assuming responsibility for specific programs of the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association (WMGA) and entering into a partnership with the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) to enhance golf initiatives in Washington, D.C. This year’s edition of the DC Amateur promises to be a special one, with the tournament selling out within the first week of the registration opening.

132 players are scheduled to tee off in round one, ranging in age from 14 to 65 years old. The tournament will transition to a 54-hole stroke play competition, replacing the prior format that included a stroke play qualifying round followed by match play. There will be two cuts made: the first cut will be made after the first round, reducing the field to 70 players plus ties, and the second cut will be made after the second round, reducing the field to 35 players plus ties.

In last year’s tournament, Eddie Coffren of Owings, Md., defeated Matthew Barnes in the final match in 39 holes. The event used a 36-hole finals match to determine the champion in prior years. Coffren is returning this year to defend his title and aims for a three-peat, a feat no one has accomplished since Bobby Brownell won ten consecutive titles from 1946 to 1955. In the history of the DC Amateur, only three players have achieved a three-peat: Bobby Brownell, Ralph Bogart, and George Voigt.
