(Lutherville, MD – January 7, 2020) — The Maryland State Golf Association (MSGA) Board of Directors announced today that Elisa Hermes will become the Association’s Director of Rules & Competitions, effective January 11, 2021.
Hermes will now oversee the MSGA tournament operations, a position previously held by Kelly Newland who is the Association’s new Executive Director. In this role she will lead the MSGA in conducting amateur and open tournaments and championships, as well as qualifiers for USGA Championships. She will also help to provide insight and clarification on the Rules of Golf.
“I am extremely excited to join the MSGA and return my focus to golf tournament administration,” said Hermes. “After being involved in various aspects of the golf industry, my true passion lies in providing a first-class tournament experience. I look forward to helping the game grow in the state of Maryland. I am also hopeful that I can contribute to furthering Rules of Golf education for our members and member clubs.”
Newland and the MSGA Board of Directors conducted a national search to fill the position.
“Elisa’s work experience, knowledge of the game, and overall enthusiasm for golf in Maryland make her an ideal fit for this role,” said Newland. “I look forward to seeing Elisa advance our tournament program and am thrilled to have her join our team.”
Before being hired as the Director of Rules & Competitions, Hermes oversaw the volunteer programs for the 2018 & 2020 KPMG Women’s PGA Championships, administered by the PGA of America and is one of the five LPGA majors. Prior to her work with the PGA of America, she was the Director of the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour, a regional junior tour run through the Illinois Junior Golf Association. Hermes has helped to run local, state, and national golf events in different capacities since 2008.
Hermes will reside in the Baltimore area with her husband, Rob, where they look forward to discovering all that Maryland golf has to offer.
