The father-son duo of Professional Dirk and Amateur Jaxson Schultz from Beaver Creek Country Club recorded a 7-under-par 31-33–64 and won the 66th Maryland Pro-Amateur championship at the well-kept Bretton Woods RC in Germantown on July 17th. Dirk, a golf professional, finished with three of the team’s eight birdies, while Jaxson had five of his own. Five teams tied for second after finishing 6-under-par. Pogorelc/Pogorelc, Bengston/Boone, Delmar/Peel IV, Freiss/Smith, and Church/Siegler all shot 65. Of those five ties for second, only one didn’t have a bogey-free round. There were plenty of low scores, with 20 teams shooting in the 60s. This year the pro-am featured two teams with Women Professional Golfers. First, Megan Leineweber, an assistant at TPC Potomac at Avenal Farm, teamed up with Aaron Rosenthal. Leineweber made five birdies and led the duo to a T9 finish. Next, Lulu Farina Reiter from Bethesda Country Club, paired with Thomas Chalfant, our 2022 Junior Champion, finished at T15. Each contributed two birdies and finished their round at 2-under-par. Also, Dustin Stocksdale of Argyle CC hit a hole-in-one on the 177-yard par 3 8th with his eight iron. A big thanks to Chris Convey and the staff at Bretton Woods for hosting this great event.
