27th Senior Four-Ball Championship Recap – The Club at P.B. Dye

The 27th Maryland Senior Four-Ball Championship took place on Tuesday, May 24, at PB Dye Golf Club. With 42 teams in the Senior division and 12 teams in the Super Senior division, it was set up for a good day for golf. However, the golfers would be facing some challenges as the weather wasn’t in their favor. The players had to play through the cold, wind, and unpredictable rain that was on and off all day.  

The pairing of John Stroop and Bob Digby, both of Golf Club of South River, finished on top of the Senior Gross Division. The team meshed an impressive 5-under-par 35-32–67 and won the 27th annual Maryland State Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball championship by an impressive four strokes. The team was very balanced as both Stroop and Digby had three birdies to help them pull off the victory. The team steamed rolled the back nine as they birdied holes 11, 12, 13, 14, and 16 with only having one bogey. 

David Nocar and Lee Flemister were able to finish 1-under-par, with a 36-35—71, being the only other team besides the champions to finish under par in the Senior division. Lee Flemister also had an exciting day as he made a hole-in-one on No. 2, a 137-yard par 3. This was Lee’s 7th hole-in-one, with several coming from competition.

Tom Grem and Gavin Stringer

In the Super Senior division, the team of Gavin Stringer and Tom Grem were able to come home with the victory. The duo from Hunt Valley Country Club carded in a 36-35-71 to shoot 1-under-par, being the only team from the Super Senior division to shoot under par. The team was able to shoot under par as they kept bogeys off the scorecard, only recording one the entire round. The team could cruise to a comfortable victory by winning by four strokes.
