Queenstown, Md. – It was a soggy day out at Queenstown Harbor Golf Club (par 72, 6,761) for Wednesday’s 104th Maryland Amateur and Open Qualifying. That didn’t stop Timothy Luckett and Matt Carpentier, who were standouts in Wednesday’s qualifying round.
Luckett began his round with a birdie on the first, one of six birdies he carded for the day. Those six birdies propelled Luckett to a 2-under-par 70, earning him the top qualifying spot for the 104th Maryland Amateur qualifying. Carpentier followed close behind, and after a string of bogeys, including one on the 10th hole, he was able to follow up with three birdies on the back nine for a total of five. Carpentier’s performance secured him the top qualifying spot in the 104th Maryland Open qualifying with a 1-under-par 71.
Performances by Jack Hartman and Ryan McGarry are not to be overlooked. Hartman and McGarry each carded three birdies throughout their rounds, earning their spots in the Maryland Amateur and Maryland Open with an even par 72. Ultimately, 28 players qualified for the 104th Maryland Amateur, which will take place June 5-8 at The Elkridge Club, and 25 players qualified for the 104th Maryland Open, set to take place July 14-16 at Country Club of Maryland.
Thank you to Queenstown Harbor, their staff, and members for hosting us for this annual qualifier!
