The MSGA sponsored its first USGA Play 9 event, Nine and Wine at the Pitt, at Manor Country Club on Thursday, August 23. It was different than your average MSGA event without rules officials or official scorecards. Instead, golfers played nine holes on a beautiful summer evening, and following the golf they enjoyed cocktails and hors-d’oeuvres on the patio overlooking the 18th green.

Manor’s Harry Pitt Nine, named after Manor member and MSGA Past President, Harry Pitt, served as a beautiful venue. The original green complexes are largely the same as they were in 1922 when the club was founded, and some of the original routing remains as well. The course measures a modest 2066 yards and plays to a par of 33, but the small greens require accuracy, and the unique layout that winds between holes on the championship course provides a perfect balance of challenge, playability, and, most importantly, pace of play.

The USGA’s Play 9 initiative encourages everyone to play more golf and points to nine-hole rounds as an ideal solution for both avid golfers and newcomers alike to play golf in a time-friendly and engaging way.
