Phoenix, Md. – The 32nd Two-Woman Championship took place at Hunt Valley Country Club on Wednesday, September 17. Eleven teams participated in this year’s tournament. The teams faced adverse weather conditions, with rain and overcast skies for much of the day.

Championship Flight

The Championship Flight consisted of two divisions, a gross division and a net division. The overall champions of the tournament were to be the low gross winners of the championship flight.

The duo of Sarah Spicer from Argyle Country Club and Jessica Spicer from USGA/Maryland-DC GC claimed a second consecutive title in the Two-Woman Championship. The Spicer sisters tallied a trio of birdies en route to a gross score of 2-under-par 70. The pair claimed the title by a margin of three strokes.

In the Net division of the Championship Flight, Elisabeth Herzfeld Rice from Clustered Spires Golf Club and Ashley Stoneman from the University of Maryland Golf Course achieved a narrow victory by one stroke over their competitors. The duo recorded three birdies and two eagles, finishing with a net score of 3-under-par 69, which secured their win in the net division.

First Flight

The First Flight of the 32nd Two-Woman Championship included seven of the eleven teams competing in the tournament. Lisa Harford from Chesapeake Hills Golf Course and Katherine Martin from Breton Bay Golf & Country Club played a solid round. The pair recorded eight birdies, resulting in an impressive score of 5-under-par 67.

Laura Kabernagel and Sandy Grem from the host club, Hunt Valley Country Club, were able to put together a round that would match that of Harford and Martin. The duo netted eight birdies and an eagle en route to a 5-under-par 67, which ultimately would give them the win on their home course in the First Flight of the 32nd Two-Woman Championship. The Kabernagel and Grem duo won the tiebreaker, which was conducted according to the USGA-recommended procedure for breaking ties via the scorecard.

The Maryland State Golf Association (MSGA) would like to thank the staff and membership at Hunt Valley Country Club for their hospitality and for hosting this MSGA championship.
