Hello Maryland! My name is Jared Goldberg, and I am joining the MSGA family as the Manager of Championships and Events. I am originally from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which sits 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia. I recently graduated from The University of Tampa where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport Management with a Minor in Business Administration. Golf has been in my family since I was a baby, but it took until my high school years for me to pick the game up. At that point, I was instantly hooked. I played on my high school’s team for two years and then on Tampa’s club team for a few years. Golf is something I enjoy because it is the best battle between mind and self. You are out there, sometimes alone, battling against yourself, and I enjoy that challenge. I have made countless friendships and memories through the game of golf, which I look forward to continuing here at the MSGA.
Why were you interested in the MSGA?
I was interested in the MSGA because I wanted to find an opportunity to begin my career within the golf world. The position I will be fulfilling lines up with my past internships and that is the direction that I want my career to begin in. The MSGA is a place that brings an entire state together to create a community. During my first tournament, I noticed that everyone at the MSGA was on a first name basis with all the players and that is something I am looking forward to learning to become a part of the family.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
As expected, you can find me at a golf course. I enjoy hitting the range and then spending hours on the putting green. I always want to make sure my short game is at the best possible level, so you can catch me playing putting and chipping games by myself. When the fall air comes in, I will be watching college football and seven hours of commercial free football on Sundays with my Eagles jersey on. GO BIRDS!
What are you most looking forward to during your first season?
I am excited to learn about the behind-the-scenes action of running a golf tournament. The tournament side of golf is something I enjoy, and that is what I was in search of when I was looking for jobs after graduation. I am also looking forward to learning more about Maryland and all the state has to offer. Even though home is only a couple of hours away, I never made it down here. So when you see me on the course, I will be ready to hear all of your recommendations!
