Lutherville, Md. – The 40th Maryland Mid-Amateur Championship is set to take place at Maryland Golf & Country Clubs from July 27-28, where a field of the state’s top mid-amateur golfers will compete for the title.
The championship is open to male amateurs who are members of MSGA Member Clubs and are at least 25 years old by July 29. Eligible players must have a USGA Handicap Index® of 7.1 or lower. The championship begins with 18 holes of stroke play on the opening day, after which the field will be cut to the low 30 players and ties. Those advancing will return for 36 holes on the final day to decide the champion.
Defending champion Kevin Grady of Rolling Road Golf Club returns looking to capture his sixth Maryland Mid-Amateur title. Already the championship’s most accomplished active player, Grady will once again be among the favorites after claiming his fifth title a year ago.
Billy Wingerd of Sparrows Point Country Club also returns in pursuit of another championship, having previously captured Mid-Amateur titles in 2017 and 2020.
Other players to watch include 2025 runner-up Jay Mulieri of Rolling Road Golf Club, who will look to take the next step after falling just short last year, along with 2010 champion Chris Baloga of Country Club of Maryland. Baloga, a three-time Mid-Amateur runner-up in addition to his championship victory, enters the week after a semifinal appearance at the 2026 Maryland Amateur Championship. Also returning is 2008 champion Vance Welch of Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club, who recently claimed the 2026 Maryland Senior Four-Ball Championship and will look to add another Mid-Amateur title to his résumé.
