The 12th Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship was held at The Country Club of Maryland in Towson, MD on June 13th. A field of 43 women competed in the championship on a 5,270 yard rain-soaked par 72 course. Although rain and thunderstorms were threatening, the bad weather held off, and we had beautiful sunshine just in time for the awards ceremony.
Jane Fitzgerald of the MSGA eClub was the champion, carding a 75, and edging out defending champion Lisa Kaufman of Holly Hills by one stroke. Jane started her round with a birdie on the first hole, and had two birdies on the back nine, offset by six bogeys, for a three over par round. Lisa played great golf with two birdies, but it was not quite enough to keep the title.
Leann Lim of The University of Maryland was the 1st place net winner, with a score of 86-16=70. Bev Lane of Congressional Country Club, was awarded 2nd low net, with 77-6=71.
