On May 4, 2014, Joan H. Lins of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away. She was the beloved wife of the late Fred Lins; devoted mother of Peter K. Lins (Argie M. O’Shea) and Pamela L. Brooks; cherished grandmother of Chloe O’Shea Lins and Mara O’Shea Lins; also survived by many loving friends and family.
Joan was an instrumental person and leader in golf course rating throughout the state of Maryland. Even prior to the Maryland State Golf Association Women’s Division’s formation in 1995, she educated countless women on how to properly rate/slope a golf course. Many of those Joan taught are still part of course rating teams today. Joan was also a representative for her club, Cattail Creek Country Club, for both the Women’s Golf Association of Baltimore as well as a MSGA-Women’s Division. Not only was she actively involved in course rating, she also enjoyed competition. She played in numerous events including the Maryland Women’s Amateur, Senior Women’s Amateur, and Two-Woman Team Championship. In fact, Lins was the Maryland Women’s Senior Champion at the Suburban Club in 1990 and the runner-up in the 1991 Women’s Amateur at Rolling Road GC.
Friends and family gathered at the Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 7th. She will be dearly missed by women golfers across the state.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Association
