67th Maryland Four-Ball Champions Ryan Chacon and Hunter Powell
Ijamsville, Md. – The 67th Maryland Four-Ball Championship took place at Holly Hills Country Club on Monday, August 3. Fifty teams took to the tee to compete for the championship, with only three strokes separating first and seventh place. The top 12 teams were awarded prize money.
Ryan Chacon and Hunter Powell of Montgomery Country Club took home the top score of the day after carding an impressive nine-under-par 63 round. Together, the pair made a total of four birdies on the front nine to make the turn at four-under. Their success continued into the second nine with an eagle from Powell on the 13th. Chacon and Powell wrapped up their championship-worthy performance with three more birdies, including one on the 18th and final hole, securing the victory at the 67th Maryland Four-Ball Championship.
Brian Gibbons and Alex Hosier of the Country Club of Maryland put together an impressive round, finishing in second place with a seven-under-par 65. Their round started strong with a birdie on the 1st hole, but was offset by a bogey on the 3rd. The duo rallied and added two more birdies, making the turn at two-under. A setback bogey on the 10th added some tension at the start of the back nine, but the pair quickly regained their momentum and recorded five consecutive birdies. A birdie on the 18th secured their seven-under-par score and ensured their second-place finish.
Five groups finished with rounds of six-under-par 66, which required a tiebreaker to determine the higher placement. The ties were broken using the USGA-recommended method for determining a winner when a playoff is not feasible, as outlined in Committee Procedures 5A(6) of the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf.
After the tiebreaker, Mike Filler of Pine Ridge Golf Course and Aaron Williams of Woodholme Country Club rounded out the top-3 on the leaderboard with a six-under-par 66. Their front nine was steady, carding two birdies and one bogey. Following a bogey on the 10th, the duo caught fire and carded four more birdies to finish their round at six-under.
The MSGA would like to thank the staff and membership of Holly Hills Country Club for hosting a fantastic day of golf.
