The 2014 Annual Rules Seminar presented by the MSGA-Women’s Division was held on Monday, April 28 at The Elkridge Club in Baltimore. The instructors were Clyde Luther and Randy Reed, both of whom are highly proficient in the Rules of Golf and well known around the Mid-Atlantic region for their Rules knowledge. Both Luther and Reed have officiated at both the state and national level including many USGA Championships.
The thirty attendees at the seminar learned about the various Definitions within the Rules of Golf during the Power Point portion of the seminar. There are over fifty defined terms (e.g., abnormal ground condition, through the green, loose impediments, etc) that form the foundation for the Rules of Golf and knowing these terms is important to applying the Rules properly. Video clips were also shown during the presentation to give the audience scenarios with common Rules incidents they may encounter on the course such as dropping and re-dropping.
In addition to the Power Point Presentation, the ladies moved to various stations on the Elkridge Club’s practice facility for further instruction on the Rules. The stations included situations a golf may encounter in a bunker, near obstructions, on the putting green, etc.
