It took sub-par scores to lead the gross portion of Men’s A and B divisions in the Maryland State Golf Association’s final One-Day event of the year at the Suburban Club on a warm, sunny day, October 20. The One-Day Four-Ball event attracted a nearly full field of 50 teams in four divisions.

Tim Elliott, who plays from Pine Ridge GC, and William Shifflett, a member of the Poor Boys GC, shot one-under par with 34-35—69, against a par of 35-35—70, to lead the A gross division. Shifflett birdied the seventh and had a bogey and a birdie on the back. Crofton CC’s Scott Falatach and Mark Villee followed in the gross division with a 71.

Joe Lefavor-Barry Andrews, U.S. Naval Academy, teamed for 33-35–68 to finish first gross in the B division. They started on the back and Lefavor sealed it when he finished birdie-eagle. Mike Curtis-John Newman, U.S. Naval Academy, placed second gross with 72, and Larry Storck-Mike Dolmetsch, Sparrows Point CC, third on a match of cards at 74.

Michael Wankmiller, Northwest Golf, and Ray Wankmiller, Links at Lighthouse Sound, capitalized on their stroke holes to end with a 62 in the A net division. They started on 10, turned even, and then shot 27 on the front with two net eagles and four net birdies.

Tim Brewer and Patrick Normyle, both golfers from Rattlewood GC, led the B net division with a 62.

There was one net prize in each of the other two divisions. The Mixed divsion was headed by Susan & Talbot Daley, MSGA eClub, with 80-66, and in the Women’s Division, Pat Erdly-Geri Smyth, Hillendale CC, led with 79-64.
