Williamsburg, Va. – The 25th Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Challenge Matches featured junior golfers from the Maryland State Golf Association (MSGA) and Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) competing as Team Mid-Atlantic against Team Carolinas. The event included Four-Ball match play and individual matches, held at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., from August 7-9.

The MSGA was represented by Malaya Johnson of Bowie, Md., Caitlyn Navaleza of Baltimore, Md., Madeline Navaleza of Baltimore, Md., and Claire Son of Frederick, Md.

Day one featured Four-Ball match play as the Navaleza sisters teamed up to take on Landry Hamm and Serra Erienkeuser from the Carolinas, and Claire Son and Malaya Johnson took on Baker Duson and Kami Caraccia. Both Maryland teams kept pace in their four-ball matches, finishing both matches in a tie and securing a half point each. Team Virginia/Maryland ended the first day with just one point on the board, giving the Carolinas a 3-1 lead heading into the second and final day.

Three Virginia players won their individual matches, but the Carolinas won the remaining five, allowing them to finish the tournament with a total of eight points. Despite a valiant effort from Team Mid-Atlantic, they ultimately fell 8-4 to the Carolinas in the 25th Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Challenge Matches.

The MSGA would like to thank the staff and membership of Golden Horseshoe Golf Club for their hospitality in hosting the 25th Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Challenge Matches.
