Annapolis, Md. – The 85th Maryland Father-Son and 5th Maryland Parent-Child Championship took place at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club on Wednesday, July 1.
Despite scorching temperatures, 40 teams made up of father-son pairs teed up at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club for their chance at claiming victory. The teams played a four-ball stroke-play format over 18 holes.
Charlie and Tom Winegardner of The Cannon Club worked together to clear the field by four strokes and secure the victory with a nine-under-par 61 round. An eagle and four birdies on the front nine left the Winegardner duo at six-under-par as they made the turn. They continued to persevere through the heat, carding three more birdies and finishing the day bogey-free, securing their victory in the 85th Maryland Father-Son Championship.

Teeing off in the height of the heat, 20 parent-child teams took to the course for their chance at coming out on top in their flights. Each team followed a modified alternate-shot format in which both players teed off, selected the better tee shot, and alternated who hit the next shots for the duration of the hole.
