Hello! My name is Sarah Amtsberg, and I am the incoming P.J. Boatwright Communications Intern. I am originally from Douglassville, Pa., but I spent the last three years in the Poconos working towards my B.A. in Communication while attending East Stroudsburg University. There, I gained valuable experience through my academics, but also through internships at various organizations within the nonprofit, hospitality, and travel industries. I’m adamant about finding a career path and industry that fuels passion, fun, and purpose, which fortuitously led me to the golf world. I cannot wait to immerse myself in the game as a professional within media and content (and hopefully improve my own sub-par game along the way)! I am always looking for the next challenge and I’m confident that the MSGA is the perfect place to take on my next one.
Why were you interested in an internship with the MSGA?
Anyone who knows me knows my two favorite things consist of golf and Maryland, so when this opportunity presented itself I knew it was one I could not ignore. More specifically, I knew I needed a strong foundation as I officially step into the post-grad world, which this community and industry could not be more perfect for. This isn’t the path I initially anticipated leaving college, but I know it is exactly where I need to be.
When did you start playing golf? Who introduced you to the game?
I played my first round of golf (so horribly that I accidentally broke a driver) in 2024 after my college roommates convinced me to go to our local course. After that tumultuous round, I was determined to figure out the ins and outs of the game and was suddenly the one convincing them to go play. Also, my father was heavily involved in the golf business from many different sides, but it wasn’t until I asked him to join me on the course that year that he began telling me stories and even supplied me with a few pointers.
What is your favorite golf course in the area?
Having just moved to Maryland full-time I haven’t had a chance to play any courses in the immediate area. That being said, the local courses I learned to play at during college will always be special to me, with Glen Brook Golf Club and Terra Greens Golf Course in East Stroudsburg, Pa., being two that I always found myself at. Back at home, Arrowhead Golf Course also comes to mind as it practically sits in my backyard and will always be my first stop for a twilight round over the summer.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
Outside of work, you’ll typically find me exploring something, somewhere. Adventuring to new cities, countries, hiking trails, golf courses, you name it, always reminds me that there’s so much more out in the world. Besides that, you’ll more than likely find me with family and friends, finding any excuse to go into DC, playing Fortnite, or catching up on my latest show.
