We regret to inform you of the passing of longtime MAPGA Professional, Chip Sullivan on March 20th after complications from a stroke. He is survived by his wife, Kari, and children Kalley, Cam and Colby.

Chip earned his PGA membership in 1993 in the MAPGA at Hanging Rock Golf Club in Salem, VA.  He qualified for the PGA Tour for the 1997 season. Overall, Chip played in 47 Tour events and made 18 cuts.  He returned to Hanging Rock before getting his first Head Professional job at Greenville CC.  Chip came back to the Section in 1999 to take over the just built Ashley Plantation HC, where he stayed until 2009. He then went back home to be the Director of Golf at Hanging Rock GC for 5 years.

Chip’s travels took him to Mississippi (he was a proud Ole Miss grad), back to Virginia at King Carter and Royal New Kent, then to Oregon, before finally settling at Bayou Oaks at City Park, where he worked until his passing.

Chip was a great player. In addition to winning the 2007 PGA National Club Professional Championship, he won 3 Section Championships, 4 Maryland Opens, and 4 MAPGA Player of the Year titles.

Please join his family in celebrating the extraordinary life of PGA Professional National Champion, Chip Sullivan, with an honorary start from PGA Gulf States Hall of Famer and Chip’s lifetime mentor, James Leitz, PGA, followed by an afternoon of putting contests, storytelling, and Acme chargrilled oysters – just as Chip would want it.
