Lutherville, Md. — The 104th Maryland Open Championship will return to Country Club of Maryland from Monday, July 14 through Wednesday, July 16, as one of the premier events on the MSGA calendar. The three-day championship will feature 54 holes of stroke play, with all players competing in the first two rounds, and a cut to the low 40 scorers and ties heading into Wednesday’s final round. The last time the Maryland Open was held at the Country Club of Maryland, Denny McCarthy defeated Rick Schuller with a birdie on the last hole.
To qualify for the championship, non-exempt players participated in one of four 18-hole qualifiers earlier this year at Beaver Creek Country Club, Eagle’s Nest Country Club, Montgomery Country Club, and Queenstown Harbor Golf Links – River Course.
The top performers from each qualifying site—plus exempt players—will make up a starting field of at least 140 players for the championship at CC of Maryland. Past champions Billy Wingerd (2007), Matthew Bassler (2009), David Hutsell, PGA (2011), Sean Bosdosh (2012 & 2106), Brad Miller (2017), Josh Speight, PGA (2020), Jake Griffin (2021), Evan Katz (2022), Ryan Siegler (2023), and Alex Hoffman, PGA (2024) will compete in this years championship.
Last year’s Maryland Open at Talbot Country Club produced one of the most memorable finishes in tournament history. Alex Hoffman, an Assistant Professional at Columbia Country Club, emerged from a five-man playoff that lasted six holes. It was Hoffman’s clutch putting and mental toughness under pressure that earned him the title in sweltering conditions.
