Hello Everyone! My name is Tyler Lysik, and I am from Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland. I recently graduated from Penn State University, where I studied in the Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program. I am excited for the opportunity to spend the next seven months working alongside and learning from such a talented and passionate group of individuals. Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through internships at various golf facilities, which has helped me grow both professionally and personally. I am really looking forward to what lies ahead and can’t wait to contribute in any way I can while continuing to grow and learn alongside everyone.
Why were you interested in an internship with the MSGA?
I was especially interested in an internship with the MSGA because I grew up in Baltimore and have a personal connection to the organization through the many tournaments I participated in over the years. Those experiences played a key role in shaping in my competitive spirit and deepening my appreciation for the game. Now, as I prepare to apply to become a Class A PGA Professional this November, I am passionate about pursuing a career in the golf industry. Being part of the MSGA team will not only allow me to give back to the game that has given me so much but also provide hands-on experience that will help me grow professionally and prepare for the next steps in my career.
When did you start playing golf? Who got you into the game?
I was introduced to golf at a young age by my father, who played casually and would take me out to the course with him once or twice a year. It wasn’t until after my first year of high school that I really started to take golf more seriously. During the summer going into, my second year of high school, I began playing competitively. Since then, golf has become a significant part of my life, not just as a sport, but as a way to push myself and grow, both on and off the course. If it weren’t for those one or two rounds a year with my father as I grew up, I don’t think I would have gotten as serious into the game as I am today.
What is your favorite golf course in the area?
My favorite golf course in the Baltimore-Metro area is Hunt Valley Golf Club. It holds a special place in my heart because it is where my love for the game of golf truly blossomed. The course itself is challenging and pushes you to think strategically and execute a variety of different shots. It’s safe to say that I have not had the same shot twice in the hundreds of rounds that I have played there.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
When I’m not at work, you can find me in one of two places: the golf course or the gym. Since my family is originally from New York, I am an avid Yankees, Giants, and Knicks fan. You can also find me watching almost every one of the team’s games during their respective seasons.
