With barely enough light to see the first ball hit off the tee, overcast, and a chill in the air, the 100 Hole Hike officially started at 6:36 am on Monday, September 16, 2024, at The Suburban Club in Pikesville. Four “hikers,” along with a caddie for one, chose to spend their day walking 100 holes of golf to raise money for Youth on Course Maryland. After hitting off the first tee and one hiker commenting, “The best part is raising the money, as I have never done this before, and it feels good,” Alex Cameron, Billy Heemer, Luke Weierbach, Will Fisher and his caddie, and good friend Justin, set off on their long day’s journey.

Hearing the loud whack of each ball, with long drives between 225 and 275 yards off the tee, it was apparent that these men were also serious golfers as they easily made their way up each fairway, chatting together as they walked.  After five hours, they had finished two rounds of 18 holes. After 18 additional holes, they paused for a quick lunch and were back on the course after a change of socks, shoes, and shirts. As the day wore on, there was a little less chatter and a bit more focus, with words of encouragement mingled between shots. As they walked in unison, you could hear the clanging of their clubs in their bags. Friends and family came by mid-day and towards the end, offering support and encouragement as they made their way.

As the day turned to evening, their determination became more intense, and despite their growing weariness, their positive spirit remained. After hundreds of swings and 27 miles of steps, at 6:58 p.m., the 100th hole was finally complete. With a new bond formed between them and a strong sense of accomplishment, the hikers had achieved their goal.

We sincerely thank each of these men for the donations they raised, their time, pure determination, physical stamina, and giving spirit. As a result of their efforts, more Youth on Course members will be able to play golf for $5 or less per round, making it more affordable and accessible.

Donations to our Hikers are still being accepted through mid-November. Please click here is you would like to make a donation for Youth on Course. Thank you!
