The team of Professional Tyler Newton and Amateur Jason Ferguson from Maryland Golf and Country Club recorded an 8-under-par 32-32–64 and won the 65th Maryland Pro-Amateur championship at the well-kept Bulle Rock in Havre De Grace on July 19th.

Newton, a golf instructor at GOLFTEC, finished with four of the team’s seventh birdies, while Ferguson had three birdies of his own and an eagle on the 380-yard par-4 4th.

The teams of Mike Larkin/Jeff Castle and Pat Moriarty/Ryan McCarthy tied for second after finishing 7-under-par. Larkin and Castle had a bogey-free round with five birdies and an eagle. Even without recording a bogey, the duo could not pull away with the victory. Moriarty and McCarthy had a team total of 8 birdies but had a costly bogey on the 453-yard par-4 5th. Bulle Rock Head Professional Matt Summers was paired up with Hillendale member Ryan Richardson. The duo recorded a 5-under-par 67 with eight birdies but had three costly bogeys on No. 5, 12, and 18, which saw them finish tied for 7th.

There were plenty of low scores, with 21 teams shooting in the 60s. However, defending champions Zachary Lese (p) and Josh Williamowsky (a) weren’t able to defend their title. The duo finished at 1-under-par, with four birdies and three bogeys on the day.

A big thanks to Matt Summers and the staff at Bulle Rock for hosting this great event.
