Hello! My name is Taylor Abrahams. I am an Intern for the Maryland State Golf Association. I recently graduated from Towson University with a B.A. in Communication Studies. I am from Germantown, Maryland and I attended Clarksburg High school where I played on the varsity Baseball team. I fell in love with the game of golf because it gives you the opportunity to compete with people from different backgrounds and with different skill sets. I am looking forward to this opportunity with the Maryland State Golf Association and being able to help this organization in anyway that I can.
Why were you interested in an internship with the MSGA?
I believe that working for the Maryland State Golf Association will help give me the understanding necessary to start a career in the golf industry, as well as promote the game of golf within my community. I believe that being able to have hands on experience at the MSGA events will provide me with knowledge necessary to help coordinate future golf events and promote a safe and fun playing environment for all golfers to compete.
What is your favorite golf course in the area?
My favorite golf course in the area is Blue Mash Golf Course where my playing partner and I were the former 2020 Monday Night Mens league champions. I grew up playing Blue Mash with my father on the weekends and really enjoyed using their practice facilities to work on my game. I have played many of the public golf courses that Montgomery County has to offer, but Blue Mash will always be the course where I have created the most memories!
When did you start playing golf? Who got you into the game?
I started playing the game of golf at the age of five years old. My Grandfather would take me up to our local driving range and buy me as many jumbo buckets as I could hit. I really started to develop a deep love and passion for the game after I graduated from High School and wanted to find another way to challenge myself. Golf was a sport that interested me the most because it was by far the most challenging sport I have ever played. The game of golf tests you’re mental and physical abilities in ways that I had never expirenced in my sporting career. So, I quickly fell in love with that drive to get better at the game and lower my handicap.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When I am not working you are most likely to find me at one of my local golf courses playing a round with some of my friends. I also enjoy playing pick-up basketball at my local LA Fitness and also spending time entertaining my little dog Jyla.
