For Youth on Course (YOC) members, cost is no determinant of talent. That is exactly what the following MSGA YOC members have proven, and the opportunity YOC aims to provide for all kids ages 6-18 across the US and Canada. For an annual membership fee of $18 in Maryland, these members can play golf at participating courses for just $5 or less. The MSGA wants to highlight the outstanding accomplishments of a few of our very own YOC members this past 2021 season.

Bryan Kim, a sixteen-year-old junior at Sherwood High School has been a member of YOC since 2019. He started off his season strong, placing second at the AJGA Carolina Trace Junior. He shot 76-70-35-36 for a total of 217, just one stroke behind the winner. Only a month later, Kim finished top five at the AJGA Junior at 12 Oaks. Kim continued his success at the MSGA Junior Boys’ Championship in June, winning the 16-18 division and the overall championship division in a sudden death playoff. Less than one week later, Kim qualified for the US Junior Amateur at Lakewood Country Club with a 70. Another of Kim’s most distinguished accomplishments in 2021, was his first AJGA title at the K.J. Choi Foundation Junior Championship in August. Kim shot even par, beating the runner-up by four strokes. To wrap up his incredible season, Kim finished runner-up in the Middle Atlantic Amateur Championship at Baltimore Country Club, shooting even par all three rounds. Kim is currently ranked eighteenth in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Charlie Bundy is an eighteen-year-old high school senior at Landon School. Bundy joined YOC in 2018. Bundy had a solid start to his successful 2021 season, qualifying for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship with a birdie on the sixth playoff hole. Among Bundy’s victories were the AJGA UHY Prep Series – Atlanta, and the MAPGA Capital Cup representing Team Maryland. Bundy also had many top finishes, including top three at the AJGA UHY Prep Series – DC, and top five at the AJGA Junior at Carolina Trace. Impressively, Bundy was named to both the Optimist International 2021 Hugh Cranford All-Scholastic Team, and the AJGA Rolex Scholastic Junior All America Team. Continuing his streak of achievements, Bundy had a great running within MSGA Championships as well. At the 100th Maryland State Amateur at Rolling Road Golf Club, he advanced to the semi-finals, where he fought hard in a close 22-hole match. He also tied for fourth at the Maryland Junior Boys Championship at Chartwell Country Club. Bundy’s father mentioned in a statement that “[Charlie] is grateful for the MSGA and YOC. He utilized the YOC program extensively in his pursuit of competitive golf. For the 2019 Maryland Open, he was able to practice daily at Worthington Manor in the week before the event, and he has played practice rounds at other events across the country as a YOC member”. –Phil Bundy

AnPhi Le is a seventeen-year-old senior at Urbana High School. She has been a YOC member since 2019. Le is our 2021 Maryland State Women’s Amateur Champion. She earned her title at The Elkridge Club with a birdie on the sixteenth hole, winning her match 4-2. Le also had two other impressive top finishes in her 2021 season outside of the MSGA. She was runner-up in the MAPGA Junior Championship at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Virginia, earning her a qualifying spot in the Girls’ Junior PGA Championship. She also finished top five at the KJ Choi Foundation Junior Championship. As a member of the Urbana High School Girls’ Varsity Golf Team, Le won her third title as County Champion, finishing with a three-under-par 69. Amazingly, this was also the lowest score in the overall county tournament for both girls and boys.
