The Maryland State Golf Association-Women’s Division will conduct the 19th Maryland Women’s Open Championship Monday October 8th and Tuesday October 9th at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace. The course will play 5,958 yards to a par 72. The format is 36 holes of stroke play, with no cut.  The Champion will have her name engraved on the permanent trophy and the low amateur will have her name engraved on the Campbell Cup.

Bulle Rock was designed in 1998 by the legendary Pete Dye.  Bulle Rock has long been considered the region’s best player’s course and the top ranking public course in Maryland. Zagat readers have also ranked Bulle Rock among the nation’s Top 50 golf courses. Bulle Rock is proud to have played host to one of the LPGA Tour’s major championships, the McDonald’s LPGA Championship. Named after the first thoroughbred racehorse brought to America, the name Bulle Rock truly signifies the strength of these 235 acres of “golf heaven.”

Clare Connolly (Chevy Chase)

There are a few past champions and runners-up in this year’s field. Ashley Grier, the 2014 and 2006 Open champion as well as the 2016 and 2008 runner up, will look to continue her success in this event. The 2013, 2007 champion and 2008 runner up, Jenny Suh, will also compete for this year’s title. Amateur, Clare Connolly, will look to continue her phenomenal play coming off a summer in which she competed in the U.S. Women’s Amateur at The Golf Club of Tennessee and the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur at Norwood Hills. Clare reached the quarterfinals in the Mid-Amateur where she was defeated in a hard-fought match by eventual champion, Shannon Johnson of Norton, Mass.  Other notable players include Lisa Kaufman (Holly Hills CC), this year’s champion of the Maryland Women’s Mid-Amateur,  and Bonnie Fry, the 2016 Women’s Senior Amateur Champion.

This year’s Amateur Champion, Delaney Shah, will be absent from the field while she competes for the Louisville University women’s golf team. Defending champion Aneka Seumanutafa will also be absent from the field after recently qualifying for the 2019 U.S. Women’s Four-Ball Championship.

There are 40 players in the field at this years Women’s Open, 28 of which are professionals, coming from all over the country. Many of the pros are coming as either teaching professionals or from playing careers on the Symetra tour, a women’s developmental tour aimed at moving players on to the LPGA Tour.

The Maryland Women’s Open is open to female amateur golfers who are members of member clubs of the MSGA  or the VSGA and to any female professional golfers.
