This year Maryland State Golf Association will conduct the Maryland Open Championship at Fountain Head Country Club for the seventh time since it hosted its first Maryland Open in 1927. The video below is a hole-by-hole aerial tour of all 18 holes at Fountain Head in a YouTube playlist format (click the upper left corner of the video to jump from hole to hole).
Fountain Head Country Club is a member-only, private club in Hagerstown, Maryland near the foothills of South and Catoctin mountains. The course was designed in 1924 by the legendary Donald J. Ross. Many refer to this historic course as a “hidden gem,” and it is the the only remaining Ross design in Maryland. The the gentle, rolling terrain winds through green meadows and quiet valleys, and the tree-lined fairways and small, undulating greens place a premium on positioning and imagination. Although it is somewhat short by modern day standards at 6323 yards and par 71 (par 70 for this year’s championship with #5 converted from a par 5 to a par 4), it can hold its own against the best. Fountain Head has hosted six Maryland Opens, including as recently as 2008 when the winning score for 54 holes was only 3 under par.
