Cambridge – The 11th Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship was played at River Marsh Golf Club on a beautiful summer day. In spite of a very rainy spring, the golf course was in excellent condition and 42 women came to play. Over half the women were from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and about a third of the field played in their first Maryland State Golf Association tournament!

Lisa Kaufman of Holly Hills CC and Jennifer Kitchen of TPC Potomac at Avenel both played great golf and it was thought that a playoff might be needed to determine the Champion. Both had a birdie on the back nine – Lisa on #15 and Jennifer on #14, but overall Lisa had one less bogey to end up with a great round of 2 over par – 73. Jennifer’s 3 over par – 74 gave her a second place win. Bonnie Fry of Maryland Golf and CC and Stephanie Ordakowski of Eisenhower Golf Club shot 78s. Bonnie’s birdie on #18 won her the match of cards for third place winner. Donna Woodruff of the Country Club of Maryland was the fifth place winner with a score of 80. Mary Busker of P.B. Dye Golf Club shot 81 and beat out Sally Ratcliffe from the Elkridge Club by a match of cards for sixth place.

The net division scores were very close. A match of cards was needed for several of the winning places. Erin Gillespie of Chester River Yacht & CC was the outright first place winner with a net score of 67. She had 8 pars and a birdie on #3 to secure her win. In second place there was a tie between Leann Lim of the University of Maryland and Marty Ashley of Lambda Links, both scoring a net 68. Leann birdied the last hole to get her the match of cards win. There were four players tied at 69 for the remaining three places, so again a match of cards determined those winners. Fourth place went to Ho Lim Jun of the University of Maryland. Jum Suh of Turf Valley CC won fifth place. Rose Pellegrino of Hog Neck Golf Course beat out Sujin Shin of Hampshire Greens for sixth place net.
