On August 10, 2023, The Maryland State Golf Association hosted the 36th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and 42nd U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifying at Argyle Country Club in Silver Spring, MD. The qualifier The course was played at 5,864 yards, par 71 for the women and 6,624 yards, par 70 for the Men. The 2nd hole was played as a par four for the men, and for the women, it was played as a par 5.

Clare Connelly from Chevy Chase Club earned medalist honors by shooting 2-over-par. Kathrine Sahm from Wilmington, Delaware, earned the second spot for the women by shooting 6-over-par. Carol Davies, an Argyle Country Club member, was the first alternate, and the second alternate was earned by Marlowe Boukis of Reston, Virginia. Boukis was in a 4 for 1 playoff with Danielle Greene, Jocelyn Abel, and Angie Whitley Coleman. The 36th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur will be played at Stonewall Links (North Course) in Elverson, PA., on September 9-14th.

On the Men’s side, the round of the day went to Erick Morales from Dorado, Puerto Rico, shooting six-under-par. Morales had a clean day making six birdies and no bogeys, locked up the medalist spot. There was a playoff for the final two spots and the first alternate spot. Mike Chu, Nicklaus Harrington, and Keith Snyder all had birdie putts on the first playoff hole (Hole #1). Synder was first and left his putt short and made his par putt. Next, Harrington, just a little further than Chu, hit his putt 3 feet past the hole, having to put a mark down and wait to see what Chu would do. Chu, from Potomac, Maryland, had a similar line to Harrington and made his birdies putt to earn the second spot. Harrington made his par putt, and the players headed up the hill to the 17th tee for the second playoff hole. Synder, with honors, hit his tee shot left of the green. Harrington stepped up and hit his tee shot to about 8 feet. Snyder’s chip shot raced past the hole and was still away after his second shot. His par putt just missed. Harrington, an Argyle Country Club member, with a downhill putt, left his putt just short and made par to earn the final spot, and Synder ended up being the first alternate. Tyler Stahle from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, earned second alternate. The 42nd U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough, New York, from September 9-14, 2023.
