Brothers Tom and Chuck Winegardner meshed for a 4-under-par 34-32–66 and won the 24th annual Maryland State Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball championship by one stroke at Rolling Road Golf Club in Catonsville, May 20.

Tom, a veteran MSGA player, had three birdies in the first five holes and added a pair on the back at the long 12th and the short 15th, while Chuck, an infrequent competitor, birdied the eighth and 10th. “It’s been maybe 20 years since we played together [in a tournament],” Chuck said.

“It was a good solid round,” Tom said. “No mistakes.” Each contributed a two-foot putt for birdie and the others were around 10 feet. The three bogeys were a three-putt and two missed greens.

There was a three-way tie for second at 67 among Robert Egge-Craig Ostrom; David Nocar, Jr.- Lee Flemister, the defending champions, and Steve Block-Richard Holland.

Last week, Holland shot 70 at the CC at Woodmore for the low score among those trying for the MSGA Amateur.

Three teams shared the low net title at 65, with a match of cards determining the prizes and first place went to the Mount Pleasant GC pair of Jeff Amrhein-Greg Ruark.

In the Super Senior (65-over) division, Jim Castagna, from Manor CC, and Joe Records, from Baltimore CC, put up a 69 for the third straight year and for the third straight time it was  good for the first place low gross trophy. Earlier triumphs were at Kenwood CC and Green Spring Valley Hunt Club.

J. Mark Budd, P.B. Dye GC, and Dennis Olson, University of Maryland GC, earned low net with 64.
