The Maryland State Women’s Amateur was held at Oak Creek Golf Club on August 30-31, 2021. The Championship Division included 38 competitors who played the course from 5,279 yards. The One-Day Super Senior Division, open to anyone age 70 or over, included three competitors who played the course from 4,933 yards. The rain, heat, and humidity levels in the area over the past month made for challenging conditions, and resulted in two weather delays on the first day.

Kimbra Benson, from Breton Bay Golf & Country Club, successfully defended her Championship title. She improved her score from last year by seven shots with two steady rounds of 75 (150). The Runner-up, four shots behind Kimbra, was Arlene Zamora of Chesapeake Bay Golf Club. Arlene shot a 73 in round one and an 81 in round two (154). Arlene also had an exciting first round with a hole-in-one on #8.

A number of the flight gross winners came down to the wire. Donna Woodruff and Jane Curtin were tied for winner in their flight, but Donna beat Jane in the match of cards with a 38 on the back nine to Jane’s 40. In another flight, Beth Ennis and Carol Davies both shot a 78 on the second day, but Beth shot an 82 the first day to top Carol’s 84. Bev Lane shot a 73 on the second day to handily win her flight. Maggie Brady and Ellen Schiller were one stroke apart after the first day, with Ellen ahead. The second day, Maggie’s 82 to Ellen’s 84 put Maggie ahead by one to win.
