Re: MSGA-WD – Junior Girls’ Team Matches
Dear Young Lady Golfer:
The Maryland State Golf Association – Women’s Division 2014 Tournament Schedule and tournament applications can be found on our website – www.msgawomen.org.
The Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship will be held on June 18-19, 2014, at Montgomery Village GC in Gaithersburg, MD. The Championship is a 2-day, 36-hole stoke play event.
The Women’s Amateur will be held on July 14-17, 2014 at Chartwell Golf and CC in Severna Park, MD. An 18-hole stroke play qualifying round will be conducted on Monday, and fifty-six players will advance to match play.
Young lady golfers are invited to submit their golf resume in consideration for participation in the Poindexter Cup. The Poindexter Cup is scheduled on June 27-29, 2014, at River Marsh GC in Cambridge, MD. Here eight Maryland girls compete against 8 Virginia girls in four-ball and singles match play.
We will not be competing in the Mid Atlantic Challenge this year.
Bonnie Fry, will be joining me in Co-Captaining this year’s girl’s team matches. Bonnie will also be the Officer-in-Charge of the MSGA-WD Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship at Montgomery Village GC, and I will be assisting her. Selections for the Poindexter Cup will be made on or around May 1, 2014.
In order to be eligible to play in these matches, a competitor must be at least 13 years of age, can’t have turned 19 and can’t be attending college. Although we do not want to discourage anyone, realistically, players should have a USGA handicap index of 9.9 or lower, routinely shoot in the low 80’s or better and play in a fair number of tournaments. Please remember to keep your USGA handicap updated and current.
