Easton, Md. – Sarah Spicer-Baldwin of Argyle Country Club came out victorious for the second year in a row after posting the only under-par round in the 19th Maryland Women’s Mid-Amateur at Talbot Country Club on August 26.

The tournament featured 18-holes of stroke play to determine the winner, with numerous former champions looking to reclaim glory. The tournament featured a shotgun start alongside the 58th Maryland Women’s Senior Amateur, with the Mid-Amateurs starting on the 10th, 11th, and 12th holes.

Ashley Stoneman of the University of Maryland Golf Course landed in third place after finishing her round with an eight-over-par 80. Stoneman fired off a birdie on the 11th, her starting hole, but was met with a double bogey and bogey shortly after. After carding four more bogeys and another double bogey, she wrapped up her third-place finish.

Clare Connolly of Chevy Chase Club secured her position as runner-up after posting a three-over-par 75. Connolly began her round on the 10th, struggling early with three consecutive bogeys on the 12th, 13th, and 14th. She regained her composure, playing even-par the seven holes. A brief setback with a bogey on the 4th was immediately countered with a birdie on the 5th, allowing Connolly to secure her second-place finish.

Spicer-Baldwin also opened her round on the 10th, getting off to a quick start with a birdie. She followed that up by going bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie beginning on the 12th to make the turn at one-under. Spicer-Baldwin managed two more birdies against two bogeys to finish with a strong one-under-par and emerge victorious once again.

In addition to her victory in the 19th Maryland Women’s Mid-Amateur, Spicer-Baldwin is also set to compete in the 39th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur from August 29 to September 3. “I’m looking forward to trying to keep the momentum rolling,” Spicer-Baldwin said of her victory.

The MSGA would like to thank the membership and staff at Talbot Country Club for their hospitality this week.
