39th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Qualifying Medalist Mallory Kane
Bel Air, Md. – The Maryland State Golf Association hosted qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur on Monday, June 29, at Winters Run Golf Club. Two women earned spots to play in the 39th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur set to be held at Montclair Golf Club this August.
Mallory Kane of Virginia Beach, Va., earned medalist honors after finishing her round at even-par 70. She opened her round with birdies on the 1st and 3rd holes and remained bogey-free until the 9th hole. Kane stayed steady for the remainder of her round with the exception of a bogey on the 16th hole. Despite the late bogey, Kane cleared the rest of the field by six strokes to earn her spot in the 39th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur.
Priscilla Harding of Philadelphia, Pa., and Carly Hunt of Catonsville, Md., each finished their rounds at six-over-par 78, leading to a playoff to determine the last qualifying spot. Both women made their way to the par-4 10th for the first playoff hole. After both players made par, it was off to the par-3 7th to determine who would advance. An unfavorable tee shot led to a bogey by Hunt, allowing Harding to secure the second qualifying spot with a par. Hunt was awarded the first alternate as a result.
Rachel Lee of Vienna, Va., Clare Connolly of Chevy Chase, Md., and Jessica Weikel of Furlong, Pa., tied at seven-over-par 79, setting up a playoff for the second alternate spot. The playoff began on the par-4 10th, where Connolly bogeyed while Lee and Weikel both made par. Lee and Weikel continued the playoff on the par-3 7th, where Lee claimed the second alternate spot after carding a par, and Weikel carded a bogey.
The MSGA would again like to thank the membership and staff of Winters Run Golf Club for their hospitality and support in hosting this qualifier.
