Tournament Information

Cockeysville, Md. – The 26th Maryland Senior Open will be held at Hayfields Country Club on October 14 and 15. This year’s tournament will showcase 112 of the top senior players in the region, including eight former champions.

Returning for this year’s Maryland Senior Open is last year’s champion, Sean English from Elkridge Club. In the tournament’s 26-year history, only three players have won back-to-back titles, and English aims to join their ranks. Also competing this year is the 2023 champion, Brendan McGrath from Trump National Golf Club. Other notable participants include Geoff Redgrave, the 2017 champion from Wintergreen Resort; Eric Egloff, the 2015 champion; Jon Corliss, the 2008 champion from Heron Ridge Golf Club; and Jim Castagna, the 2006 champion from Manor Country Club. Each of these players is seeking to secure their second Maryland Senior Open title.

This year’s field features two past champions who are vying for their third Maryland Senior Open title. Only two players have accomplished this feat: Larry Ringer (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004) and John Howson (2009, 2010, 2012). Dirk Schultz, the 2016 and 2018 champion from Maryland National Golf Club, is one of the players seeking his third title. The other is Rick Schuller from Meadowbrook Country Club, who won in back-to-back years in 2020 and 2021.

It will have been 11 years since an amateur has won the Maryland Senior Open, with Matt Sughrue being the last amateur to claim the title in 2014. Three amateurs with high hopes of changing that in this year’s field are a trio of Maryland Senior Amateur champions. Todd Williams, the 2025 Maryland Senior Amateur champion from Montgomery Country Club, and Michael Garner, the 2024 Maryland Senior Amateur champion from Manor Country Club, both aim to carry the momentum of their recent victories as they seek their first Maryland Senior Open title. Another name to keep an eye on, two-time Maryland Senior Amateur champion Tom Winegardner from The Cannon Club, who will also be in contention for his first Maryland Senior Open title.

Sean English, PGA, poses with the Maryland Senior Open trophy after winning the 2024 edition of the tournament at Elkridge Club

Professional Sean English, PGA, captured his first Maryland Senior Open title at The Elkridge Club, his home course, with a final score of 2-under-par. He outlasted a competitive field, including runner-up George Bradford and Super Senior Division winner Rick Schuller, PGA, while Tucker Sampson of Manor Country Club secured low amateur honors. This year’s event, with its returning champions and hungry amateurs, promises to provide another competitive field as they vie for the Maryland Senior Open title.
