Hagerstown, Md. — The 104th Maryland Women’s Amateur Championship will take place from July 21-23 at Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown, Md., bringing together some of the top female amateurs in the state for one of the MSGA’s most prestigious titles. This is the first time that the Fountain Head Country Club will play host to the Maryland Women’s Amateur.

The tournament returns with its traditional first-round stroke-play qualifier, where competitors will first vie for seeding. Following the stroke play qualifying round, the tournament field will narrow down to head-to-head matches leading up to the championship match.

Helen Yeung of Argyle Country Club, the reigning champion, returns to defend her title after capturing the 103rd Maryland Women’s Amateur with a 4 and 3 victory over Jada Richardson (USGA/Maryland-DC GC) in last year’s final. Yeung aims to win consecutive titles, a feat last achieved by Kaitlyn Rohrback in 2010-2011.

Joining Yeung is a strong group featuring two past champions and a player on the rise:

  • Sarah Spicer (Argyle Country Club) – 2023 champion

  • Clare Connolly (Chevy Chase Club) – two-time champion (2017, 2022), 2023 runner-up

  • Zoe Cusack (Congressional Country Club) – 2024 & 2025 Maryland Girls’ Junior Amateur Champion

Spicer returns to the Maryland Women’s Amateur field after a great season in 2024. She was able to win the Maryland Mixed Two-Ball and Maryland Two-Women in 2024.  She’ll have her eyes on redemption and a deeper run in this year’s tournament.

Connolly, a two-time champion and 2023 runner-up, is also seeking some redemption after being knocked off in the first round of match play in 2024 by eventual runner-up Jada Richardson (USGA-Maryland DC GC). Connolly won her first Maryland Women’s Amateur title in 2017. Five years later, in 2022, she would return to the winner circle and claim her second Maryland Women’s Amateur title. Connolly came close to back-to-back titles in 2023 before eventually falling to Spicer in the final, 2 and 1.

Cusack, a standout junior, will be one to watch after her recent dominant win at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club in the 48th Maryland Girls’ Junior Amateur. In the 103rd iteration of the Maryland Women’s Amateur, Cusack boasted the top score in stroke-play qualifying with a 5-under-par 67. She showed her match-play prowess with a 9 and 8 victory in the first round before ultimately falling in the second round to Lani Park (Youth on Course – Maryland), who also returns for the 104th Maryland Women’s Amateur.

Featuring an elite field, match play pressure, and the scenic backdrop of Fountain Head Country Club, the 104th edition of the Maryland Women’s Amateur promises a week filled with drama and excellence.
