Lutherville, Md. – The Maryland State Golf Association is pleased to announce the 2024 Schedule of Championships and Events. The season will feature stops at familiar venues and a few new event formats.

Men’s Events

One of the marquee events of the men’s season will be the 103rd Maryland Amateur, which will be held at Manor Country Club in Rockville. Over 132 competitors will look to keep their skills sharp over five rounds of match play to claim their spot in MSGA history. The William Flynn designed, Arthur Hills renovated course will provide a familiar test for players, as it hosted the 101st Maryland Open in 2022. The last time the club hosted the Maryland Amateur was in 2015, when Manor CC’s Ben Warnquist claimed victory over Mike Stackus.

New this year, the MarylandAmateur champion will receive an automatic bid into the 2024 U.S. Amateur Championship. Last May, the USGA announced changes to the championship’s qualifying model. The U.S. Amateur qualifying format will now mirror the U.S. Open qualifiers with a two-stage qualifying format. There will be an 18-hole local qualifier and an 18-hole final qualifier.

As part of these changes, the USGA announced exemptions into the U.S. Amateur, which include state and Allied Golf Association’s Amateur champions based on established criteria and historical WAGR event power rankings.

The other marquee event on the 2024 schedule will surely be the Maryland Open. This MSGA championship will make its return to the Eastern Shore for the first time in 46 years. Talbot Country Club in Easton will host over 120 Maryland amateurs and Mid-Atlantic professionals during the 103rd playing of the championship. Recent renovations to the Ed Ault designed course will offer a challenge for players on the classic Eastern Shore-style course. The last Maryland Open champion crowned at Talbot is Maryland Golf Hall of Fame member and 22-time MSGA Champion, Marty West, so this year’s champion will be in good company.

Additional stops this season include The Club at PB Dye for the Mid-Amateur at the end of July and a return to Green Spring Valley Hunt Club for the Senior Amateur in September.

Women’s Events

One of the highlights of the women’s season will be the 25th Maryland Women’s Open, presented by Toyota, which will be contested on Woodmont Country Club’s North Course. The home of the 120th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship is the club’s original 18-hole course, which was designed and constructed by Alfred Tull. The North Course has been home to Final Qualifying for the U.S. Open and previously hosted U.S. Women’s Open qualifying. The most recent MSGA event held at Woodmont was the 2018 Mid-Amateur Championship.

Another focal point of the 2024 schedule will be the 103rd Maryland Women’s Amateur, which will be held at The Suburban Club of Baltimore. The course, which remains one of the oldest golf courses still in use in the region, most recently hosted the 2021 Maryland Girls’ Junior and has been home to the Youth on Course-Maryland’s 100 Hole Hike for the last three years.

Other noteworthy sites on the schedule will be the Links at Perry Cabin for the Mixed Two-Ball and Winter’s Run Golf Club for the Women’s Mid-Amateur and Senior Women’s Amateur. Additionally, the MSGA will be hosting a new format on the women’s schedule – a team shamble. The date and location for the Women’s Shamble will be announced shortly.

Maryland Junior Amateurs

The 100th and 47th editions of the Maryland Junior Amateur and Maryland Girls’ Junior Amateur, respectively, will be hosted by the US Naval Academy Golf Club. The William Flynn designed course was recently renovated by Andrew Green and will provide a fair and challenging test to over 120 of Maryland’s best junior golfers. Both championships will receive AJGA PBE Stars, Junior Golf Scoreboard recognition, and are WAGR counting events. You can learn more about the changes to these championships here.

Abigail Avallone and Owen Newberry will look to defend their titles at Navy this season.

One-Day Events

The MSGA will host five One-Day Events this season. Two of the events will be individual Stableford events, and these will be held at Montgomery Country Club and Rolling Road Golf Club. The other three will be Four-Ball events held at the Country Club at Woodmore, Prospect Bay Country Club, and another site to be determined. One-Day events are a great way to experience new golf courses and friendly competition.

Registration for Amateur/Open Qualifiers, Junior Amateurs, Women’s Amateur, and Women’s Shamble will open March 5 at 10 a.m., while registration for all One-Day events will open March 25 at 10 a.m. To view additional registration windows, please click on the schedules below.
