The teams of Bryan Koslsoky-Kevin Smith and Barry Falgout-Hank Weiss, competing in the men’s back and forward divisions, respectively, were atop of the leaderboard following a One-Day Four-Ball tournament conducted by the Maryland State Golf Association on Monday, June 26th at the Golf Club at South River.
The duo of James Muck and Rick Cross posted a team net score of 60 (-11) for the men’s back division. With 10 birdies as well as a birdie (net eagle) on 18, the duo was able to shoot eleven-under on the front to help them capture first place and win the net prize.
With the Muck and Cross earning the low net prize, Bryan Koslsoky and Kevin Smith won low gross with a round of 65 (-6). The duo had only one bogey on the card with seven birdies to finish the day six-under-par.
Josh Brown and Kevin Bader earned second place (gross) in the men’s back division with 34-32-66 (-5). Frank Purdy and Nicholas Berault finished in second place (net), scoring 31-30-61. Nineteen teams registered to compete in the Men’s Back division and played from the Blue tees measuring 6,017 yards.
The Baltimore Duffers Club duo of Robert King and Tim Yee were able to post a net score of 64 (-7) to win 1st place net in the men’s forward division for the second straight year. George Suh and Pedro Carrasco posted a net score of 65 (-6) and won 2nd place net. The duo of Bill Parks and Carl Herbermann were awarded the third-place net prize. Barry Falgout-Hank Weiss was able to post a score of 69 (-2) to earn first place gross. Randy Skold and Sunil Ahluwalia were able to shoot a 37-33-70 to win the 2nd place gross prize. Twenty-one teams registered to compete in the Men’s Forward division and played from the Gold tees measuring 5,532 yards.
In the mixed division, John and Kate Rodgers earned the prize for first place (net) with a 6-under-par 65. Scott Alder and Kendal Ehrlich earned the award for the first-place gross for the mixed division shooting a 38-39-77. The Men played from the Gold tees measuring 5,532 yards, while the Women played from the Red tees measuring 4,740 yards.
The format for the 43 teams was Four-Ball stroke play, often referred to as better ball. In Four-Ball, Competitors play as partners, each playing their own ball. The lower score for the partners is the score for the hole. If a player is confident that their score will not count on a particular hole, they are not required to finish the hole, but one team member must hole out.
The committee for MSGA One-Day tournaments uses the USGA recommended method for breaking ties when a playoff is not feasible, outlined in Committee Procedures 5A(6) of the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf.
