Charles Winegardner and Tom Winegardner

The 28th Maryland Senior Four-Ball Championship occurred on Wednesday, May 24th, at The Cannon Club. With 33 teams in the Senior division and 20 in the Super Senior division, it was set up for a good day for golf. The weather couldn’t have been better as the golfers experienced perfect conditions. The pairing of Charles Winegardner and Tom Winegardner from The Cannon Club finished on top of the Senior Gross Division. The team combined for an impressive 8-under-par 33-30–63 and won the 28th annual Maryland State Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball championship by three strokes. The team was very balanced as Charles and Tom went back and forth, contributing to their score. The team finished hot on the back nine as they birdied holes 15, 16, 17, and eagled 18 while having a zero-bogey round.

Michael Garner and Carter Steuart finished 5-under-par, with a 32-34—66, claiming second place in the Senior division. The group tallied six birdies and only had one bogey on the first hole.

In the Super Senior division, the team of Bob Stark and Joseph Fenlon of Breton Bay Golf  & CC came home with the victory. This duo put together a 35-34-69 to shoot 2-under-par, being one of two teams from the Super Senior division to shoot under par. The team was able to shoot under par as they kept bogeys off the scorecard. They shot even on the front and had two birdies on the back which enabled them to come out on top. The team was able to hold on as they won by only one stroke.

The runner-up of the Super Senior division was the team of Jan Miller, a past president and board member of the MSGA, and John Seguin. Jan and John fell one stroke short as they had two costly bogeys paired with a birdie on hole six and an eagle on hole 11 to keep them one under.
