Hello! My name is Hailey Smith. I am an intern for the Maryland State Golf Association. I am a senior at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo MI. I am studying Digital Media and Journalism as my major and General Business as my minor. Over the years since high school I have fell in love with sports. Growing up I played golf with my dad on weekends. I am looking forward to this opportunity with the Maryland State Golf Association and to learn more about golf industry.

Why were you interested in working with the MSGA?

I am believe that working with the Maryland State Golf Association will help me further my connections not only in the golf industry but all across the board with other sports. Having hands on experience will help me understand the behind the scenes in golf and help me understand what all goes into coordinating a golf tournament.

When did you start playing the game? Who got you into the game?

I started playing golf when I was about five years old. I would go out to the golf course with my dad when he would go golfing. I asked him one day if he could get me my own clubs to play with him. He did, they were pink. After he had got me my own clubs I played with him all the time. Once I got into high school I didn’t go out and play as much as I would’ve liked to. When I had moved away for college all of my friends would go golfing. I decided to start going with them to the driving range and to the course.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

When I am not working, I like to watch the sunrise or sunset. I am a very family oriented and enjoy spending time with my family. Since moving away from home to college, it was hard for me to go home all the time. I decided that it was easier to FaceTime my parents and siblings. I try to call or FaceTime my parents once a day and text my siblings quite often. I also enjoy spending time with friends and finding new places to explore. Such as new restaurants, places to walk, and new towns.
