The Maryland State Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship was held at The Suburban Club in Pikesville on October 5, 2020. Thirty-one competitors played the 5,434 yard A.W. Tillinghast designed course with both gross and net prizes awarded. The players were treated to beautiful fall weather, clear skies after showers overnight, and a course that was in pristine condition with quick greens.
Donna Woodruff, a member at the Country Club of Maryland and resident of Baltimore defeated Kimbra Benson, a two-time past champion and recent MSGA Women’s Senior Champion in a sudden death playoff after both players returned a score of 80. Both players tied the first playoff hole with bogeys. On the second playoff hole, a 127 yard par 3, Kimbra had a difficult second shot with her ball lying close to the boundary fence and Donna secured the victory with a par. This marks Donna Woodruff’s first individual championship win with the Maryland State Golf Association.
