The teams of Jaxson Schultz-Kenny Smith and Rhem Wooten-Richard Ham, competing in the men’s back and forward divisions, respectively, were atop the leaderboard following a One-Day Four-Ball tournament conducted by the Maryland State Golf Association on Monday, October 3rd at Beaver Creek Country Club.

With Gilmore and Vincent earning the low net prize, the Beaver Creek duo Jaxson Schultz and Kenny Smith won low gross with a round of 64 (-8). The pair had a clean scorecard with six birdies and one eagle. They edged out the other Beaver Creek duo, Zach Weber-Billy Reed, by one shot for first place gross.
The Baltimore Country Club duo of Will Wears and Nicholas Koziol finished in second place (net) with a score of 34-34-67 (-5), including four birdies (one gross and three net) and three eagles (one gross and two net). Fourteen teams registered to compete in the Men’s Back division and played from the green tees measuring 6,011 yards.
The duo of Bob King and Lou Stewart were able to post a net score of 70 (-2) to win 1st place net in the men’s forward division. Ham and Wooten were able to shoot even par 72 to earn low gross honors in the men’s forward division. Four teams registered to compete in the Men’s Forward division and played from the gold tees measuring 5,671 yards.
In the Mixed division, John and Kate Rogers earned first place (net) prize with a one-under-par (71). Four net birdies helped secure the first-place finish for the Rogers. Scott and Suzanne Smith shot two-over par to finish behind the Rogers. The men played from the gold tees measuring 5,431 yards, while the women played from the red tees measuring 5,020 yards.
The committee for MSGA One-Day tournaments uses the USGA recommended method for breaking ties when a playoff is not feasible, outlined in Committee Procedures 5A(6) of the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf.
The format for the event was Four-Ball stroke play, often called better-ball. In Four-Ball, Competitors play as partners, each playing their own ball. The lower score for the partners is the score for the hole. If a player is confident that their score will not count on a particular hole, they are not required to finish the hole, but one team member must hole out.
